In order to help teach and aid students in understanding the election process, teachers and first grade students at BES held their own election. The students studied the character traits of “Arthur” characters and voted on which one they thought would make the best “friend.” Teachers worked with students on the discussion of voting, elections, campaigns, candidates, responsibility and rights. Teachers explained the secret ballot, and the students had to show their voter registration card. They even made campaign posters to try to convince the other students how to vote. Arthur won in a landslide election!
