BETHEL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Mrs. Heather Hollingsworth, Principal                                      Mrs. Amanda Watson, Assistant Principal

August 16, 2019

In an effort to make sure students are as safe as they can possibly be during the dismissal process, we have made a few changes to the way our car line will work this year.

The side parking lot at the gym will be blocked off and will be staff only parking. It will not be an option to park there to pick up students at the end of the school day.

The two options will be to get in the car line or park in the bottom parking lot.

  1. If you choose to get in the car line, there will be two lanes of vehicles. The first vehicles will pull all the way around and stop at the cones; all other vehicles pull in behind them and fill up the circle. After all the vehicles have come to a stop the students who belong to those vehicles will be sent out. No vehicle will move until ALL students in that group are in their vehicles. The cones at the front of the line will be moved and the lines of vehicles will be instructed that it is safe to leave. The next two lanes of vehicles fill in the circle and the process is repeated as many times as necessary to get all students picked up.
  2. If you choose to park in the bottom parking lot, you will need to walk up the sidewalk on the left hand side of the circle (gym side). There will be a staff member with a clipboard at the edge of the awning and you will need to sign your child out with that person. That staff member will radio in and tell the teachers which students need to come out the “Walk Up” door and your child will come out of the door on the left side of the building and you may take them with you to the lower parking lot and leave.

These new procedures are an effort to make sure no students are trying to move across the car line circle while cars are moving as well as making sure that all students are with the correct adult. It is sad that we live in a world where bad people prey on innocent children, but we do and it is our job to make sure that children are as safe as they can possibly be while in our care.

If you have questions or suggestions please give me a call.

Thanks!!

Mrs. Hollingsworth
