CogAT Information

Dear Third Grade Parent/Guardian,

The CogAT (Cognitive Abilities Test) will be administered to third grade students on Tuesday, February 2.  Students will be given a practice activity on Thursday, January 28, to help them understand the format of this assessment.  The CogAT is designed to evaluate reasoning ability and abstract thinking.  The results are used for diagnostic purposes and will not affect a student’s grade or grade placement.  As with any assessment, it is important that your child put forth his or her best effort.  Please assist us by having your child eat a nutritious breakfast, arrive at school on time, and be well rested.

Students participating in remote instruction may also have the opportunity to complete the CogAT.  Safety and health protocols are in place for all students.  We would like the opportunity to administer the CogAT to your student if you choose to.  Please contact Alma Wells/awells@haywood.k12.nc.us, Glenna Rayburn/grayburn@haywood.k12.nc.us, or Nicole Revis/nrevis@haywood.k12.nc.us to set up a date and time.
