THANK YOU!!

Book O Ween was a huge success today and we couldn’t have done it without the help of our parent volunteers. Some folks volunteered by making phone calls to get folks in place and others volunteered by supervising classes during the event. Regardless of your role, we appreciate you more than you will ever know!

BOOK FAIR

Next week is our book fair. See the informational flyer below this post for more information. Two things to note:

1. Doughnuts for Dads is just a cool name that sounds good because both words start with D. A student can bring Dad, Mom, Grandpa, Grandma, Aunt, Uncle…you get the picture. We just want someone special to the child to come get a doughnut and perhaps spend a few bucks in the book fair.

2. We will not be checking IDs to make sure you’re there on the right day that goes with your last name. Please stick to it as much as you possibly can simply because we have to cut down on the number of people who are in the library and downstairs hall at the same time. But if your last name starts with S and the only day you can come is on Wednesday…come on! If you have children in your household with different last names, just pick a day.

Please remember that masks must be worn by all children and adults while you are inside the building. We’re going to have it set up so that the doughnuts and drinks will be picked up as you’re leaving so you can eat as you exit the building. Thanks in advance for having a mask with you when you come to the book fair!

STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTION DAY

Tuesday, November 2 is Election Day both for real and at BES. We are excited about this process. The students who are running for office have made posters that are on display in the hall and short speeches that all of the students in the school will watch before voting on Tuesday. We encourage all students and staff to wear red, white, and blue on Tuesday in honor of Election Day.

A HUGE thank you for our school counselor, Mrs. Cavner, for heading this up. She will also be helping the elected officers and representatives fulfill their duties upon being elected to office. This is not a “one and done” thing; the student council will have duties and responsibilities throughout the school year.

HCS CALENDAR CHANGE

Thursday, November 11 is the Veterans’ Day holiday and there is no school for students or staff.Friday, November 12 is now a Remote Learning Day so students do not come to school on that day. Work will be sent home (device or paper/pencil) on Wednesday, November 10. That work needs to be done sometime between then and when they come back to school on Monday, November 15. If they turn the work in, they will be counted present for Friday, November 12 and if they don’t turn the work in, they will be counted absent for that day.

This day takes the place of the Remote Learning Day that was scheduled for February 2, 2022. That day is now scheduled to be a regular school day.

SAD NEWS…

Due to continued Covid restrictions and guidelines, we will not be able to have our big family Thanksgiving and Christmas lunches this year. We are hopeful that we will be able to bring this tradition back next year.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

We would love to have some folks (parents, grandparents, friends, neighbors, etc.) who could commit to a certain day (or days) and time each week to come and volunteer. We have students who simply need a person to read with them on a regular basis. If you would be willing to do that or have questions, please send me an email: hhollingsworth@haywood.k12.nc.us
