Happy New Year and Thank You!

I hope you had a safe and restful break! If you’re anything like me, I love a break but I need a routine so I’m ready for school to start back up.Thank you for your amazing generosity with regard to the canned food drive in the month of December. Our final total was 8,081 non-perishable food items. That is absolutely awesome!!

School Calendar Info

Tomorrow (Wednesday, 1/5/22) is a 12:30 dismissal. We WILL be having after school until the regular time of 6:00 pm.Monday, 1/17/22, is the Martin Luther King holiday so there is no school for students or staff.

There are two days later in the school year that have been changed to 12:30 dismissals. Those dates are Friday, 3/4, and Friday, 4/1. (These have been changed to early dismissals due to a mandatory professional development initiative mandated by the legislature that involves elementary folks. The professional development is happening over a two year span of time – this school year and next school year – and involves a minimum of 56 hours of extra work over those two years. No extra time has been given to the elementary teachers to do this training so they’re having to do it after school, on weekends, whenever they can find time, etc. Long story short, these two early dismissals are an attempt to give them at least a few hours to work on this training.)

Remote Learning Days…

Please be ready for most snow days to be remote learning days. That means your child will have work that needs to be done while out for bad weather. If the work is turned in, he/she will be counted present on the snow day. If the work is not turned in, he/she will be counted absent for that day. Different people have different opinions about these remote days…some like them and some don’t. I totally understand and agree with folks on both sides of this issue. At the end of the day, however, my thought is that the snow day/remote learning day counts as a school day and won’t be tacked onto the end of the school year. In that regard, it’s a good thing.

Report Cards for the 2nd 9 weeks come home on Monday, 1/10/22. This is the halfway point of the school year.
