Calendar Changes

It was so good to have the students back at school today! The HCS calendar was updated today as a result of the remote learning days we had last week. As of today, there are no more scheduled remote learning days and no more scheduled teacher workdays in this school year’s calendar.

There are three early (12:30) dismissals: Friday, 3/4, Friday, 4/1, and Friday, 4/8. Spring break is 4/11-15. Memorial day is Monday, 5/30, and the last student day is Friday, 6/3. All other days that the weather is cooperative enough to allow us to be here safely will be regular school days.

As we continue through the winter months, inclement weather may cause the calendar to change again…and again. As it does, I’ll keep you informed.

Rodeo Round Up: Lasso Your Math Facts

This year’s math challenge has a rodeo theme. Our kick off events will be this Friday, 1/28. Students will have fun activities in the auditorium on Friday; there could be a little roping and riding…stick horses, that is…going on at Bethel this week. The challenge begins on Monday, 1/31, and ends on 3/11. Each grade level has their own set of skills that the students will be working on mastering. These will be shared with you so you can help your child work on whatever it is that they need to do to move their belt buckle to the top of the ribbon. All the students who successfully move their buckle to the top will receive a reward of some kind. This is a CHALLENGE, so it will require extra work and only the students who meet their challenge will receive a reward.

All the students and staff are encouraged to dress like a cowboy/cowgirl/rodeo participant on Monday, 1/31, the first “official” day of the math challenge.

February is Black History Month

In honor of Black History Month, we’ll be introducing our students to a different notable person each morning on the announcements. Each student is invited to complete one (or more) information sheet(s) about a black person who has positively impacted the world in some way (inventors, athletes, authors, actors, educators, musicians, etc.). The sheets will be turned in to the teacher and/or the office and a random one will be selected each morning for the announcements.
