Parent Lunch & Learn

Mrs. Cavner and I will be having a virtual parent session next Tuesday at 12:30 pm regarding social media and internet safety. See the attached slide for details and the link to the google meet. The more we learn about how students (even very young students) are being exploited via cell phone and/or gaming system, the more we feel we need to educate as many people as we can. Please make plans to join us virtually next Tuesday at lunchtime. The link to join is meet.google.com/okn-vnei-twt

March Madness Tardy Challenge

We have had a total of 0 days so far without any unexcused tardies. The school improvement team decided to extend the window until the middle of May. That means if we can have 5 days in a row with no unexcused tardies between now and May 15, the whole student body can have a glow dance party. Keep on working toward this goal!

Spring Fling Friday, April 21 5-8 pm

This is going to be our 1st ever Spring Fling and we’re hoping it will be our biggest fundraiser of the year. We need to raise about $20,000 to keep our computer lab teacher for the 2023-2024 school year.

Here is some information regarding our upcoming spring fling:

We will sell wristbands for $25. With the wristband, kids can have unlimited access to games and inflatables and can have one popcorn, one snow cone, and one cotton candy.

More information about pre-ordering a wristband will be coming soon in another newsletter.

Activities:

Inflatables will be in the gym. Props will be available at the fireplace for people to take “BES Spring Fling” photos with their phones.

Cake walk, Bingo, face painting, tricycle races, color wheel, rubber duck pond, plinko, dart board with velcro balls, throw rings on cones, knock cans down with bean bags, egg and spoon race, Candyland bean bag toss, potato sack races, and maybe a few more.

The Spring Fling is NOT a drop off event. We are not in charge of supervising students that evening; they have to be with a parent or other adult (or at least much older sibling).

We are also going to sell 50/50 tickets and have a wide variety of items for a silent auctions. The silent auction items will be posted online prior to the event for bidding to begin and then folks can go see the items and continue to bid at the event.

We are looking for vendors and/or folks who want to rent a space in the car line loop to sell items. Spaces will be $25 each.

Food:

Fat Bellies food truck, Harvest Moon Crepes food truck, Holy Cow food truck, Coffee Container, pizza from Waynesville Pizza Co. will be on sale in the cafeteria. These are the confirmed folks who will be there; we are still waiting to hear back from a few others.

Cotton candy, snow cones, and popcorn will be part of what kids get with a wristband, but we will also sell these items for $1 each.

Entertainment:

In the auditorium:

Legacy Dance Center at 5:15 and 6:15

Voices in the Laurel at 7:30

In the cafeteria:

Doug and Lisa Jernigan (bluegrass)

We will need candy for game prizes and cakes for the cake walk so we’ll be asking parents to send a big bag of candy to school the week of 4/17 with their K-2 child and a store bought cake with their grades 3-5 child.

If you are willing to volunteer or donate a silent auction item or would like to rent a vendor spot, please email either Josie Rathbone at jrathbone063012@gmail.com or Lauren Lawson at laurenlawson622@gmail.com

This event is for our entire community so please tell your neighbors, friends, and family members to come on out and eat supper and listen to music on Friday, 4/21 from 5-8 pm.

More info will be coming soon!!
